Silver Gate Elementary
Week of September 8th
Beginning Tuesday, September 8, students will log into their daily Zoom as directed by their classroom teacher.
I hope that the first week of school went well and that you enjoyed connecting with your child's teachers and engaging in the student and parent Welcome Week activities provided by SDUSD. We all appreciate your patience and support as we get to know our students and families and build our classroom communities in this online environment.
Starting Tuesday, September 8th, you can expect your child to be live with your child’s teacher anywhere between the hours of 9am-12:00pm and maybe a little beyond depending on your child’s teacher and grade level. This DOES NOT mean they will be live continuously all of those hours during this time frame. Each grade level team of teachers planned extensively this summer to organize schedules and content to best provide grade-level, standards based instruction in an online environment. Students are expected to be in a variety of live lessons which include whole group and small group lessons. Just as when we are in a brick and mortar classroom, teachers will make adjustments to best meet student needs.
Thank you for participating in our Material Distribution event last week, we loved seeing our families from a safe social distance! Please reach out to me or your classroom teacher if you were unable to get classroom supplies or a student device and we will coordinate with you for an alternative pick-up.
FOOD SERVICES UPDATE
The USDA recently made a decision allowing our district to continue providing free meals for all students.
Please inform your school families that they may drive-thru or walk-up to any of the 82 meal pick-up locations throughout the district to receive a nutritious breakfast and lunch for their children. Meals are available Monday through Friday from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Currently, there is no cost or school validation needed. We will continue to update families as we find out how long this waiver remains in place.
Students do not need to be present to pick-up meals; however, a photo of the child will need to be shown by their parent or guardian.
Families can visit www.sandiegounified.org and click on ‘Meal Pick-Up Locations’ to find their nearest school meal pick up location.
