Silver Gate Elementary
Week of April 5, 2021
Reopening Message!
I hope you had a wonderful Spring Break! It was nice to have time to relax and disengage a bit. However, I am not going to lie, although I found time to relax throughout the week I also spent time organizing and planning for our April 12th reopen.
We are all so excited to start Phase 2 of our school reopening! This week will be busy as our entire staff returns to campus to prepare for April 12th. We can't wait to see everyone who chose onsite hybrid back on campus, and those that chose online, back in class. Silver Gate Elementary will offer four days of instruction for all students that chose the onsite hybrid option.
This is one of several newsletters for Phase 2 reopening. As you can imagine, there are a lot of moving parts and logistics. I am collaborating with our staff to finalize our launch. Please read this and subsequent newsletters thoroughly to ensure a smooth and safe start.
Below are some things you can do to prepare for a safe and successful reopening:
1. Have an age-appropriate conversation with your student about why your family chose the hybrid model or the online option. Students may have friends who made a different decision, and it is important for students to understand every choice deserves to be respected.
2. Practice proper hygiene. Remind students to thoroughly wash their hands for enough time to kill all germs. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends scrubbing your hands with soap for at least 20 seconds.
3. Practice wearing a mask. Masks will be required when students return to campus, and they are still recommended every time you leave the house. Students should practice covering both their nose and mouth with a snug but comfortable mask.
4. Review the rules on physical distancing. As much as friends may wish to greet each other warmly on campus next week, everyone must keep a respectful distance between themselves and other students. Remind your students about these rules for everyone’s safety.
5. Help your student prepare for the new school lunch program. For the remainder of the school year, meals will be provided to all students at no cost but students will not be able to sit together to eat unless they are able to maintain 6 feet of distance. Explain this to your students and practice a few times to make them feel comfortable.
6. Check in with your students to measure their emotional health. Returning to the classroom after a year can be as emotionally difficult as starting school all over again for the first time.
7. Talk to your child's teacher. Think of April 12 as the start of a whole new experience for your student. Collaboration with your child's teacher will help ensure a successful transition.
HEALTH AND SAFETY!
Classroom space will be set up in order to maintain a maximum of 6’ of distance between students or a minimum of 5’ of distance between students - thus the number of days students can attend onsite hybrid

Clearpass QR Code
All students entering campus are required to complete a health screening every day. This can be done by filling out a paper form or by using the ClearPass Health App. You can add ClearPass to your phone's home screen and complete your Daily Student Check-In on your phone. It’s easy, just log in via your organization, use your child’s district ID and password, and answer the yes or no questions. If you get the “You are safe to go to school” screen, take a screenshot and show it to whomever checks your child in. Save even more time and send it to your teacher via email or Konstella before you bring your child to school!
*you will need to complete this for each child using their unique ID and password. Take screenshots if you have multiple children.
PLEASE DO NOT SEND YOUR STUDENTS TO SCHOOL WHEN THEY ARE SICK!!
Because safety is the top priority, all Silver Gate staff and students must adhere to the District’s health and safety guidelines. Here are some of the expectations for students:
- Families will fill out this daily symptom checklist or send the teachers a copy of the students Clear PASS for each student, and children will bring it to school each day (we will have additional copies of the checklist in the front office, for your convenience). If the answer to any of the questions is “yes,” your child needs to stay home.
- Face masks must be worn at all times, and they must fit properly by covering the nose and mouth. Gaiters are acceptable as long as they fit properly; however, masks with vents are not permissible, and face shields may be worn, but they are not a substitute for a face mask. Face masks can be removed briefly outdoors while sipping water, eating, or when the mask needs to be replaced. Extra face masks will be provided as needed. *Note: Students with disabilities may work with their IEP team to determine an appropriate mask accommodation, if needed.
- Hand sanitizer and handwashing stations have been set up around campus and in classrooms. Please remind your child to cleanse their hands when entering and exiting a room, using the restroom, touching their face, and putting on/removing their face masks.
- Maintain 6 feet of distance from other students and adults at all times (a minimum of 5 feet of distance may be used if needed).
- If your child develops any COVID-like symptoms during the school day, they will be placed in a supervised waiting area separate from the health office until they are picked up. Please plan to have someone available to pick up your child from school quickly if they develop symptoms. They will be able to return to school based on a decision tree designed by the county public health department.
