IN THE STEAM LAB THIS WEEK!
TK/Kinder STEAM 10/12
This week in STEAM our TK and Kinder Scientists kicked off a 6 week unit on weather by learning about air. Students learned that while we can’t see the air, we can spot evidence that the air is there (leaves moving in the trees, flag moving on the flagpole). We then used that evidence during an experiment with bubbles to make a hypothesis on what direction the bubbles will go. Students also explored factors that could affect the direction and longevity of the bubbles (wind, air temperature, humidity levels and building locations). We collected data from each class on how long the bubbles lasted before popping and next week can compare the longest vs shortest lasting bubbles and wonder what factors could have affected each class outcome. Students wrapped up the lesson by learning about Spirit Lake Elementary School in Iowa which is entirely powered by wind turbines. Next week in STEAM students will build their own wind powered machines with LEGO and test them with hand held fans.

3rd Grade: We continued our Novel Engineering lessons. The students had to develop a solution using the Design Process to solve a problem in a fable they read. Ask your budding engineer about their solution! They were very creative!
