Welcome
2021 - 2022 School Year!
Welcome Back Silver Gate Families!
In exactly one week, Monday, August 30th, is our first day of school and I couldn't be more excited.
I recently came across a quote that read, The best way to appreciate someone is to imagine your life without them. Last school year we experienced separation from each other, that is why Silver Gate's goal is to come back strong to school an reestablish a strong sense of belonging for our students and our community as well as maintaining high expectations for all.
To all returning students, I cannot wait to see you again and hear about all of your summer activities. As you go into your new grade level remember to ask questions, participate and, above all, have fun! For all of our new Gators, we are so GLAD YOU ARE HERE!!! I cannot wait to meet you and learn all about each of you. You’re going to love being at Silver Gate.
Please email Renee at rerickson@sandi.net if circumstances have changed and you will not be returning to Silver Gate. Include your child's name, grade, and the school they will be attending.

Minimum Days the first week of school for Kinder Students.

The first week of school all Kinders will be assessed. The assessment will be a brief snapshot of where your child is at so that we can have a tiny bit of data right from the start. Please sign-up at the Kinder Meet & Greet in your child's classroom. Assessments will be begin at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, August 30th with 20 minute time slots between 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. If you cannot make it, teachers will find time to assess during the school day.

Please pick up your student from their classroom on that day. Thank you so much for your cooperation. It is going to be a great year.

Students, staff, and visitors will be expected to follow strict health and safety protocols.
All students, staff, volunteers, and visitors are required to wear masks at all times indoors.

Teacher Requests
I have received several emails for teacher requests. Please understand that teachers spend hours creating new classes. Our top two priorities are gender balance and academic range. Then we look to create classes where students have opportunities to create new friendships and generate new class energy. Our team at SGE is committed to providing absolute excellence for every child as we honor and value all students dynamic needs. The teachers draw out student strengths and maximize learning resulting in all students having the confidence and intellect to execute amazing academic and social skills.

Immunizations
Attendance
Please do not send your child to school when they are sick.
When your child must be absent for any reason, please call the office at 858-988-2200 by 9:00 a.m. every day of non-attendance, giving the exact reason for the absence. You can also email Renne Erickson at rerickson@sandi.net
Any child arriving after 7:50 a.m. must stop in the office and pick up a tardy slip. This is disruptive to your child and the entire class. Let's set good habits early in the school year to arrive on time.
VOLUNTEERS
While we are so excited to welcome out families back to campus, we are still limited in the number of volunteers we can allow onsite. I anticipate this changing as the year continues and guidelines are updated.
Please take a look at the district guidelines for volunteer requirements.
https://sandiegounified.org/a-to-_z_index/volunteer_opportunities
Here are the biggest changes to the guidelines and requirements.
School visitors/ volunteers must follow the school’s health and safety procedures such as signing-in, daily health check procedures and wearing the Visitor/ Volunteer badge at all times while on campus.
Essential volunteers who are fully vaccinated do not have to test weekly. Those not vaccinated do have to have a weekly covid test.
Visitors who are unable to wear a face mask must arrange for an alternate family member to conduct business on their behalf; volunteers must comply with the mask requirements.
Families can sign up online at: https://www.ymcasd.org/character-builders-registration
